Jessica and Henrio were so much fun to “work” with during their engagement session! I say that in quotation marks, because running around Runge Nature Center, avoiding turkeys and poison ivy, doesn’t reallllyyy feel like work. We made our way through the trails at the center, found the prettiest little green spots and took some fun images! These two are absolutely adorable and so made for each other. I knew I had to visit Runge, because I remembered from their consultation that they had their first date there! Henrio, not so pleased with the whole nature idea was relieved that our next destination was one of the Missouri River overlooks where the couple got engaged! Here is their adorable proposal story as told by Jessica herself:
Henrio and Jessica got engaged on January 9, 2019 – the first day of the Legislative Session and the day of the Inaugural Ball. Jessica was convinced she was having dinner with two friends, Ellie and Casey, before heading to the ball. Henrio had other dinner plans but offered to drop her off so Ellie could take their picture by the river first.
They looked at the river while Jessica thought they were waiting for Ellie. Then Henrio pointed to a photo book on the monument. Still in the dark, Jessica wondered what kind of litterers leave behind a photo book. She knew something was up when their picture was on the front of the book.
The book documented pictures from their relationship and culminated in “Jessica Laura Petrie, Will You Marry Me?” Henrio got on his knee, and neither of them are entirely sure what he said. But he asked Jessica to marry him, and she yelled “Of Course!” with excessive hand gestures (of course!).
Ellie was secretly filming the proposal, and she gets credit for planting the photo book and helping coordinate the surprise!
After the proposal, Jessica and Henrio had dinner at one of their favorite restaurants and went to the Inaugural Ball. It was beyond special to share the news with their friends there.
Jessica and Henrio dressed it up for photos at the overlook, Henrio in a well fitting navy suit (guys, do yourselves a favor, buy one) and Jessica in an above the knee maroon cocktail dress. We took photos at the overlook and ended by dancing to some music from a nearby motorcycle! Whatever works!
At the end of the session we made a quick stop at the Governor’s garden to round out the evening. I absolutely love how the couple described the evening, saying:
Amanda made our engagement session so fun and special. It felt natural as we laughed and talked in some beautiful spots around Jefferson City. We were able to visit Runge Nature Center, which is one of my favorite places, as well as the overlook on the river where Henrio proposed. During the first part of the session, I wore the same dress I wore on our first date and a pair of earrings my mom always wore when I was little – so many memories tucked into the pictures! And it meant a lot to go back to the proposal spot, reminisce, and get some great pictures.
Amanda made both locations work, even though the proposal overlook probably wasn’t ideal for photographing. What I remember most is dancing and laughing with Henrio while Amanda worked to get to perfect angle. I was surprised how relaxing it was. It was a great evening hanging out with my best friend … and Amanda, who after two hours of pictures is definitely our friend too.
I couldn’t agree more, guys! I can’t wait ’till December to be a part of your gorgeous winter wedding! In the meantime, relax and enjoy the ride!
